SQL: Cannot Connect To SQL Server Analysis Services 2008

Whenever I tried to connect to Analysis Services using the SQL Server Management Studio 2008, I was getting the following error:

Cannot connect to [Computer Name][Instance Name].
A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient)
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it ::1:54226 (System)

I trawled the internet looking for a solution, but didn’t really find anything.

As I had SQL 2005 installed as well (as the default instance), I decided to uninstall 2005 and 2008, and then start again, by installing 2008 first as the default instance.

To my delight, I am now able to connect to Analysis Services.  It did take a while to uninstall everything, including looking in the registry for Report Services!!

It seems as though SQL Server Analysis Services doesn’t like connecting through the Management Studio, if it is using a Named Instance!!
